A 19-meter-long sperm whale was rescued(營(yíng)救)from the shores of Xiangshan county in Ningbo, Zhejiang province on April 20 after being stranded(擱淺的)for over 21 hours.

　　The stranded whale, which weighed about70 tons was 1 (one) noticed by fishermen.Although whales breathe oxygen like land animals,they need water 2 (stop) them from overheating. The fishermen feared that the whale would die 3 it was not pushed back into the sea in time, so they called the police.A 200-person rescue team arrived immediately. In order to keep it 4 (live), the team had to cover the whale's long body 5 water. Volunteers also joined in rescuing the whale.

　　At high tide(漲潮時(shí)),the whale 6 (connect) by rope to several boats. Then it was gently pulled back into the sea.By midnight,the whale was at a depth of 9 meters. The safe water depth for whales of this size should be 7 (deep) than 20 meters,according to Wang Liangliang,a member from the rescue team. The rescue work 8 (end) at 5:49 a.m. on April 20 after 21 hours.

　　"The whale is able to breathe 9 (smooth) and become safe. Watching it disappearing into the sea made me feel so proud of my work."Wang said.

　　A wildlife expert from Zhejiang Ocean University said these areas have had whales stranded several 10 (time) in recent years. And this is the first time that China has successfully rescued a large sperm whale.
